The papers consist of typescript and holograph manuscripts of articles published in Peruvian and other Latin American periodicals (1941-1975). The articles describe and critique many aspects of Peruvian, Latin American, and American culture, especially politics, literature, and education. The collection also includes personal correspondence from 1919 to 1960, and newspaper clippings about Sánchez.

Luis Alberto Sánchez (1900-1994) was chair of Peruvian and American Literatures at the National University of San Marcos [Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos] in Lima, Peru, and a prominent member of the Peruvian Aprista Party [Partido Aprista Peruana] from its founding in 1931. Sánchez also taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Columbia University.
